Why so hard with our top Squasher? 7. December 2007
Once again one has the chance to read in Squash-Talk totally unqualified comments about Germany’s’ top Squasher! When will these people learn that the players, who have little or no support, are a credit to this land? World top tennis stars Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Maria Sharapova, and Justin Henin were/are assisted by their team of helpers so that they were/are able to compete at their highest level. Top squash nations are able to send coaches/managers with their players to help out at many of the world PSA and WISPA events, and players like David Palmer had Shaun Moxham by his side as he took the World title twice.
The brilliance and endeavour of Sabine Tillmann took her far into the world top ten, but even then she was nearly always alone, and at the end of her squash career only to be discarded and badly treated by German Squash.
Is it envy, frustration or just the negative side of people that leads to these attacks on Germany’s’ best? Sadly these players, without the real help and guidance that they require may never be able to climb to the very top of their chosen sport and always be open to this kind of attack from people who do not even wish to be recognised for the twaddle they spread.
